Tinovul Mare, on the boardwalk
A short walk through the peat bog, on a wooden boardwalk of ~1 km
A wooden boardwalk across the largest peat bog in Romania
Tinovul Mare at Poiana Stampei is the largest peat bog in Romania: ~680 hectares of wetland, at an altitude of 960 m, between the Dorna river and the Dornișoara stream. The bog is still alive: the peat moss grows layer upon layer.
A wooden boardwalk, rebuilt in 2020, runs through the reserve, and you walk it in ~1 hour there and back, with no climbs. From the cabins you get there in ~15 minutes.

In the village, turn left onto the road to Dornișoara, following the signs for Tinovul Mare, and drive ~4 km on a gravel road, keeping right. An information board on the right marks the entrance; you cross the railway line and enter the pine forest.
